What is Homesteading & Off-Grid Living?
Moving toward an off-grid lifestyle and building up your homestead is an exciting adventure! If you’re wondering what it really is or where to start, here is an introduction. Living “off-grid” means you are living in a self-sufficient manner and do not rely on public municipal utilities such as water supply, sewer, the electrical power grid, or similar utility services. “Homesteading” is focused on all the other aspects of your life too, like having your own personal farm and growing your own food, homeschooling your children, and making many of the things you need yourself.
There are varying degrees and aspects of living off-grid and homesteading depending on personal preference and it’s all up to you! For some it’s simply a means for a more sustainable lifestyle, reducing the resources they consume, connecting with nature, and caring for the environment. Some people even feel renewed and rejuvenated by just spending the weekends or summers in an off-grid vacation home. For others on the other end, it means primitive living in the wilderness full-time with no internet, no technology, and completely disconnecting from modern society. Wherever you may be on the spectrum, whether you’re wanting to be a casual off-gridder or more extreme, here are some resources and articles for getting started. We recommend just taking on one project at a time and not trying to do it all at once so you don’t get overwhelmed and can enjoy the process!

Handeeman (the guy in this video) has a whole YouTube channel dedicated to off-grid living and you will likely get a wealth of information from his page HERE.
